How emergency and planned plumbing behave like separate businesses in Tampa Bay, how homeowners search for each, and where the profitable half gets lost.

Four leaks quietly hand your jobs to someone else every week. Here's what each one costs — and exactly how we plug it.
What it costs MIT research found a homeowner contacted within 5 minutes is 21× more likely to become a real lead — and 100× more likely to even pick up — than one called back 30 minutes later. Every call you miss is a job the next company books.
How we fix it Missed-call text-back, speed-to-lead automation, and 24/7 booking — so no lead ever hits voicemail and disappears.
What it costs Google now answers nearly half of all searches with AI before anyone clicks a single website — and ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI hand back one contractor by name. If that name isn't yours, you were never in the running.
How we fix it GEO & AEO — we get your business cited and recommended inside the AI answers homeowners actually read.
What it costs The top three Google Map results and Local Services Ads absorb the calls. Everyone ranked below them fights over the scraps — and most homeowners never scroll that far.
How we fix it Local SEO, a dialed-in Google Business Profile, and Local Services Ads management that put you in the top three — where the calls actually happen.
What it costs Given two companies, homeowners pick the one with hundreds of recent 5-star reviews over the one with a handful — before they ever dial. Fresh, steady reviews are table stakes now, not a bonus.
How we fix it Automated review generation that turns every finished job into new 5-star proof — on autopilot.

Most plumbing companies in Tampa Bay run two businesses out of the same truck and market only one of them. There is the emergency business, won on speed and availability, and the planned business — repipes, water heaters, water treatment, fixture upgrades — won on trust and price transparency weeks ahead of the job. They share a phone number and almost nothing else.
Emergency searches are frantic and literal: "burst pipe", "no hot water", "sewer backup", "emergency plumber near me". They come at night, on weekends and on holidays, from a phone, and the homeowner will call three listings in ninety seconds and hire whoever answers. Nothing about your website matters in that moment except whether the number connects to a human. Planned searches read like research: "repipe cost", "tankless vs tank", "whole house water filter", "how much to replace a water heater". Those run on desktop over several sessions, involve a spouse, and reward the company that publishes real ranges and real explanations instead of a contact form.
Housing age drives a large share of the work. Older neighborhoods across South Tampa and St. Petersburg carry original supply and drain lines that are now well past their design life, which makes repiping and drain replacement a structural market rather than an occasional job. Slab-on-grade construction is the second factor: leaks under slab are common, expensive, and frequently reach the plumber through an insurance conversation rather than a search. Water chemistry is the third. Municipal water across much of the region is hard enough that scale shortens water heater life and drives real demand for softeners and filtration, which is the highest-margin planned work most plumbers under-sell.
Plumbing is steadier than the weather-driven trades, but it is not flat. Seasonal occupancy matters: homes that sit empty for months surface problems when they are reopened, so late fall produces a wave of calls on systems nobody ran all summer. Holiday weeks reliably spike drain and disposal work. Storm season brings sewer and drainage calls after heavy rain rather than during it. And the quiet stretches are the right window to sell repipes and water treatment, because that work is scheduled, not urgent, and can be booked into the gaps that emergencies leave.
Split every number by emergency versus planned. Measure answer rate and after-hours answer rate first, because it caps everything else. Track average ticket by job type, and watch the share of revenue coming from planned work — a company living entirely on emergencies has no schedule and no margin. Measure quote-to-close on repipes and water heaters separately, since those are considered purchases with a delay. And track how many emergency calls convert into planned work later, because that handoff is where the profitable business actually comes from.
Only if someone answers. Emergency search is the most valuable traffic in the trade and the most wasted, because the cost is paid at the click and the revenue depends entirely on a human picking up. Fix answering first — an after-hours service, an answering partner, a rotation, anything — then buy the traffic. Buying it before you can answer it is a subsidy to the plumber who can.
Repipes are researched, not searched in a panic. That means a real page about repiping with cost ranges, timeline, what the disruption actually looks like, and how the decision is made — plus follow-up. Then use the drain calls you already run as the entry point: you are inside an older home looking at the pipes, which is the most credible repipe conversation anyone will ever have.
Yes, and it usually gets none. Homeowners search for the symptom, not the solution: spotting on glassware, scale on fixtures, dry skin, short water heater life. Content and pages built around those symptoms pull in a customer nobody else is competing for, and the work is scheduled, high-margin and recurring on filter service.
The build-it-for-me version of all this lives on our plumbing marketing page.
