Multi-step forms usually convert better for higher-ticket work like roofing, remodels, and HVAC replacement, because the first question is easy and each answer builds commitment. Single-step forms tend to win for urgent, low-consideration jobs where the homeowner just wants someone on the phone today.
If you test a multi-step form, open with a low-friction question such as service type or zip code, show a progress indicator, ask for the phone number last, and capture partial entries so a drop-off is still a lead. Three to five steps is plenty; twelve is a survey.
