Should I turn on lazy loading for the images on my site?

Yes for everything below the fold, no for the hero image. Lazy loading defers images until a visitor scrolls near them, which cuts initial page weight, but applying it to the main hero delays the largest element on the screen and makes the page feel slower than it is.

The practical setup is lazy loading on gallery photos, testimonial headshots, and anything further down the page, with the hero loaded eagerly and given high fetch priority. Long before-and-after galleries benefit most, since a 40-photo grid otherwise loads all 40 images whether anyone scrolls or not.
