Because Google's built-in reporting is deliberately thin. Performance data only reaches back about six months, the standalone call history feature was retired, and Google only counts a call when someone taps the call button inside Search or Maps.
Every call from your website, a saved contact, a yard sign, or a truck wrap is invisible in that report. The fix is a call tracking number set as the primary number on the profile with your real line kept as an additional number, plus dynamic number insertion on the website. Then you get recordings, source, and full history instead of a six-month bar chart.
